This GCSE teaching pack consists of 10 PowerPoint files with accompanying photocopiable resources and is designed to improve students’ skills in translating from French to English.

The pack focuses on 10 key skills, each linked to a different topic. It includes activities for Foundation and Higher tiers plus exam-style assessments. The activities can be woven into your teaching throughout the GCSE course or used as a revision tool in the run-up to the exam.

Mastering GCSE translation: French to English – 2024 specification will prepare students for the last question in the French reading exam with AQA, Edexcel or Eduqas and has been updated for the 2024 curriculum.

Updates

The translation texts are now split into individual sentences for Foundation tier. Throughout, the pack has been updated to reflect:

  • the changes to the topics/sub-themes
  • the new GCSE French grammar and vocabulary lists for AQA and Edexcel.

About the writer

The translation practice sentences and paragraphs in Mastering GCSE translation: French to English – 2024 specification have been written and updated by Robert Margolis, a former deputy headteacher and a teacher of MFL for many years. He is the lead examiner for AQA’s GCSE writing exam and currently authors and delivers face-to-face and online training for AQA.
