Black History Month quiz
A thought-provoking and visually engaging quiz for use during Black History Month in October.
The quiz celebrates some of the most influential black people in Britain throughout the country’s history and the contribution that they have made to all areas of British society, including politics, sport, music, literature and healthcare.
The 11 multiple-choice questions focus on pioneering black Britons and on key events in black British history, including the first black captain of the England football team, Britain's first black police officer and the toppling of the statue of slave trader Edward Colston. It features notable black women such as Mary Seacole, Zadie Smith and Maggie Aderin-Pocock. The 11th question can be used as a tie-breaker if you haven't got a clear winner.
From the answers and the notes fields, there are links to short articles and video clips on many of the people and events, including the arrival of the Windrush generation from the Caribbean, providing plenty of opportunity for independent research.
The quiz is suitable for celebrating Black History Month with students in key stage 2 or above and is ideal for use with key stage 3 or key stage 4 tutor groups.
