A revision resource on the Maldives case study, focusing on key facts and how they can be connected to form coherent exam answers.

Students are encouraged to associate each set of facts with a black-and-white image, following the principle of dual coding. They then apply retrieval practice to recall those key facts from printable revision strips, which they can cut out and annotate.

The Word document also contains revision tips, exam-style questions and assessment grids. The questions were written for Eduqas B, but the case study information will be relevant for all exam boards.

The PowerPoint presentation can be used to model how to connect the facts to form chains of knowledge.

An extract from the resource:

Connect one idea to the next to create a chain of knowledge. For example:

  • The Maldives is made up of 1,190 islands. What is the elevation like?
  • 80% of land is less than 1m above sea level; 100% is less than 3m high. Nowhere is more vulnerable to sea level rise. What impacts are already being felt?
  • Sea level rise has contaminated groundwater with salt, affecting the drinking water supply. And what will the future impacts be?
  • 90% of the economy is based on tourism, but sea level rise will destroy tourist resorts. What impact would a rise of 1m have?

Carry on in the same way, making connections …
